OPT Reporting Requirements

The Center for 国际研究 will continue to maintain and update your SEVIS record while on OPT. It is your responsibility to report the following required information.

When do you need to submit a OPT update?

Within 10 days of the start of your OPT period (i.e. the start date on your EAD card), you must report your:

  • Start/end date of your employment
  • 雇主名称及地址

  • And a statement of how the employment is related to your course of study

How do I report my OPT updates?

You will need to login to your SEVP门户.

Note: 就业 start dates more than 10 days before will not be accepted in the SEVP portal. 而不是, you will need to report your employment update to a DSO to be entered in your SEVIS record, which will show in your SEVP portal within 1 business day after the update is made. 

报告 employment that started more than 10 days ago,你必须登录 STEM OPT报告表格 to confirm that your name, 居住地址, 雇主的信息, and employment status are current and accurate.

How do I set-up my SEVP门户 账户?

  1. Once your OPT request is approved, OPT开始, you will receive an email with instructions on how to create your SEVP门户 账户. You can recognize the SEVP email by the sender and subject line:

    Subject line: Optional Practical Training Approval – the next step. 创建SEVP门户 账户.
  2. Click the link in the email and the “Register” page in the SEVP门户 registration process will open. You can only use the link once and it is only good for 14 days. The day the email is sent counts as the first day.
  3. 输入您的SEVIS ID. If you enter this incorrectly three times you will be locked out.
  4. 点击“提交”.
  5. 输入密码. SEVP门户 Password Tips Sheet.
  6. 确认密码.
  7. 点击“创建帐户”.

The SEVP门户 will only send emails related to your portal 账户 and will always come from "do-not-reply.SEVP@ice.国土安全部.政府."

If you do not receive the e-mail to create your SEVP门户 账户, please do the following:

  • 选择“I have not received the SEVP e-mail/link to create my SEVP门户"

If you get locked out of your SEVP门户 账户 you must do the following:

The SEVP portal will lock your 账户 after three failed attempts to log in to the SEVP门户. Please use the "Reset Password" option on the login screen before contacting a DSO to unlock. If you still need assistance after you attempt to reset your password, please do the following:

A new I-20 is not automatically printed every time you make changes to your SEVP门户. If you would like an updated I-20 or have plans to travel outside of the U.S. 需要一个新的 旅行的签名 to re-enter, please do the following:

  • 选择“Option 1: I-20 Reprint for OPT/STEM OPT Status Updates"
  • 完成一个y other required information on the form
    • Updated I-20s will be sent by e-mail. In April 2020, the Student & Exchange 访问or Program (SEVP) updated its guidance, allowing I-20s to be emailed. Please print the updated I-20 and sign it in blue ink on page 1 for official use.
    • Please allow 5-7 business days to process your request.
